Monday, July 9:  The delegates met in audience with Archbishop Leandro Sandri, newly appointed prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches at the Congregation. The Archbishop greeted them warmly, and he offered his prayers and good wishes for their Chapter. He encouraged them to deepen their spirit of St. Basil, and he stressed the importance of an intimate relationship with Jesus. “Be authentic – be who you are, and this will overflow into fruitful apostolates,” he added, while reminding the Sisters that this time in history calls them to ecumenism and evangelization. He closed with a promise of support, and the invitation to, “Remember, the Congregation is your home.”

In the afternoon, the Sisters processed from the chapel to the meeting hall, with each group singing “Heavenly King,” the hymn to the Holy Spirit in its own language. Sister Alphonsa officially opened the Chapter. Preliminary details were completed, and Sister Dorothy Ann Busowski of Philadelphia was chosen to chair the Chapter. Sister Alphonsa then presented the report of the General Superior, and Sister Veronica Vislocky presented the report of the General Treasurer.
