On July 17, 2019, the XI General Chapter in Rome elected a new General Superior of the Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil. The newly elected General Superior is the 49 year old Provincial of the Sisters of Saint Basil of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Province in Romania, Mother Marcela Runcan.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world, indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” says Margaret Mead.

The day began with Divine Liturgy and prayer sung by the Sisters from Slovakia in Old Slavonic. Father Mark who works at the Oriental Congregation served the Liturgy.

The General Chapter body spent most of this Saturday, the sixth day of the Chapter, working through about 50 proposals received from members of the Order from all of our units.

Day five of the XI General Chapter was begun with matins followed by the Divine Liturgy. The Liturgy was celebrated in Romanian by Fr. Vasile Man, Vice Rector of the Collegio Pio Romeno and the responses were sung by the Sisters from Romania.

As each day the Chapter Body began with prayer. Each day a different language group guides the prayers. Today was the Osijek, Croatia group.

The third day of the General Chapter was begun with matins in honor of St. Anthony of the Kyivan Caves, who is commemorated today on our liturgical calendar.
