02 12 16 2Heeding the call of the Holy Father during the “Year of Consecrated Life”, we tried to spread information regarding the ministries of our Sisters. Banners were created showing various ministries throughout the world and get-togethers were held with various groups. On Sunday, June 7, 2015 in the chapel of the Generalate of the Basilian Fathers on the Aventino Hill there was a presentation about the Sisters of the Order of St. Basil the Great, a part of the program for the “Year of Consecrated Life”.

Participating in day’s events were groups of “Mothers Prayers” and Sisters of the Order of St. Basil the Great from four different countries, all members of the Generalate Administration in Rome – Sr. Lydia Anna Sawka (United States of America), Sr. Mariela Rotzen (Argentina), Sr. Daniela Stefkova (Slovakia) and Sr. Nazariya Mykhaylyuk (Ukraine).

After a short introduction regarding the essence and goals of a monastic or religious calling, a short slide presentation was shown regarding the history of Basilian women’s monasteries, the oldest women’s monasteries of the UGCC, and citing some statistics from the present time. Greater details about the lives of the Sisters in the Holy Trinity Province (Ukraine) were gleaned from the presentation. Great interest was shown at the partial viewing of a CD made for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Basilian Sisters in the USA, which included commentaries by many leaders of our Church, as well as, the Sisters sharing their reflections about their personal calls. Following the presentations, there was an opportunity for questions and answers about monastic vocations.

In response to the suggestion of Pope Francis to share our history, on June 12, 2016 there was a get together with youth at St. Sofia dedicated to the theme of monastic life, more specifically, the Sisters of the Order of St. Basil the Great.
