The annual Stations of the Cross were held on the Sunday of the Veneration of the Holy Cross, March 19, 2017 at the Basilica of St. Sofia in Rome.

This year the Ukrainians of Rome prayed for the intentions of their struggling nation, which is suffering from war and economic strife. The Stations of the Cross were led by the rector of the Basilica, Rev. Marko Yaroslaw Semehen. A choir of students of the Collegio of St. Josaphat sang the responses. The cross was carried between stations progressively by the various female religious communities (Sisters of St. Basil the Great, Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, Sister Catechists of St. Anne) and the faithful from various Ukrainian groups in Rome (the Basilian Fathers from monastery of Christ the King, the parishioners of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, parishioners of St. Sofia Basilica), as well as, youth groups, various groups of “Mothers in Prayers”, and others. At the conclusion of the Stations of the Cross, Reverend Marko addressed the participants with the words of Patriarch Josyf Slypyj “Do not be afraid to risk during your lives”, accepting a risk deepens your trust in God. The day concluded with prayers and a panakhyda for the deceased soldiers of ATO.
