At the X General Chapter of the Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great, which was held in Rome, Italy during July, 2013, a new General Administration was elected.
Delegates of the Chapter elected Mother Dia Stasiuk, OSBM from the Most Holy Trinity Province in Ukraine as the General Superior.
Mother Dia has already served two terms as General Superior of the Order during the 1989 – 2001 years, when she was a member of the Jesus, Lover of Humanity Province in Fox Chase Manor, PA, USA. Previous to being elected General Superior, she served as a General Coucilor from 1983 to 1989 with General Superior m. Christopher Malcovsky. Her life journey provides a vast realm of knowledge and skills for leadership in the Order.
Elected First Councilor and Vicar was Sister Lydia Anna Sawka, OSBM from the Jesus, Lover of Humanity Province in Fox Chase Manor, PA, USA. Sister Lydia Anna worked for many years as the personal secretary for Metropolitan-Archbishop Stefan Soroka (Philadelphia, PA, USA). She was also a Provinicial Councilor and Secretary. The year before her election to the General Administration, Sister Lydia Anna was chosen to be the principal of Saint Basil Academy, a private all-girls school belonging to the Basilian Sisters in the Jesus, Lover of Humanity Province. In addition to her Vicar and Councilor duties in the General Administration Sister Lydia Anna also serves as the Legal Representative for the Order in Italy and serves as the English-language Secretary.
The Second Councilor elected was Sister Mariela Rotzen, OSBM from Christ the King Province in Argentina. Previously, Sister Mariela had served as Provincial in her Province, while in recent years she ministered at the Retreat Center in Salta (Argentina). Currently, Sister serves as the General Treasurer.
Elected as the Third Councilor was Sister Daniela Stefkova, OSBM from the Mother of God Province in Presov, Slovakia. Previously, Sister studied at the Lviv National Academy of the Arts (Lviv, Ukraine). Having completed those studies, the Provincial Chapter elected her as Provincial Vicar and she ministered as the Local Superior of the monastery in Bardejov (Slovakia). As General Councilor in Rome, Sister took on the responsibilities of being the House Superior. During the Provincial Chapter in 2015 in Presov, Slovakia, Sister Daniela was elected as Provincial Superior and returned to Slovakia to assume her new ministry.
The Fourth General Councilor elected was Sister Nazariya Mykhaylyuk, OSBM for the Most Holy Trinity Province in Ukraine. In the past, Sister Nazariya ministered for two years in the Assumption of the Blesssed Mother Parish in Mississauga, Canada (a mission belonging to the Jesus, Lover of Humanity Province). Upon returning to Ukraine, Sister Nazariya completed her studies at the Lviv Academy of Arts in Ukraine and lived in our community of Sisters in the Monastery of the Entrance of the Mother of God into the Temple in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, where she ministered as the Local Superior. As a General Councilor in Rome, Sister serves as the General Secretary.
After the Third Councilor, Sister Daniela Stefkova, OSBM returned to Slovakia, Sister Nazariya Mykhaylyuk, OSBM assumed the position of the Third Councilor. To fill the vacancy of the Fourth Councilor, Sister Emanuela Vavrekova, OSBM from the Mother of God Province in Presov (Slovakia) was chosen. In the past Sister Emanuela had ministered in the community of Sisters in Bardejov (Slovakia). During the most recent six years Sister was studiying in the Psychological University of Warsaw in Poland. At the present time Sister ministers as the House Superior of the Generalate.
