January 8, 2016 – The Sisters were invited to the home of the Fratelli Giuseppinni from Mexico, our neighbors across the street from the Generalate, for a social gathering and prayer in celebration of the Christmas season. Also attending were other communities from the neighborhood - the Franciscan Sisters, Daughters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary (RC) and the Sisters Servants of Immaculate Mary from Poland (RC).
February 1, 2016 - The celebration of the day of Consecrated Life in the UGCC was hosted this year by the Sister Catechists of Saint Anne. The gathering began in the Church of the Holy Martyrs Ss. Serhij and Baccha with the celebration of Great Vespers led by the Basilian Fathers. The main celebrant was Most Reverened Dionysio Lachovicz, who welcome all present on this special day.
Sophia Lada wrote the icons gracing the walls of the Chapel in the Generalate of the Sisters of the Order of St. Basil the Great in Rome, Italy. During 75 years of her hard-working life, the artist accumulated a large expanse of cultural and artistic projects covering a multitude of venues in addition to icons and paintings, including fashion designs, illustrations, book graphics, manuals, decorations and even toys. Lada’s works were showcasedin numerous exhibits.
On the evening of February 22, 2016 in the 95th year of his life, Rev. Dr. Ivan Muzychka fell asleep in the Lord in his residence at the quarters of St. Sophia Association in Rome, Italy. He was a hard-working priest, often referred to as “a humble creator of history”.
January 1, 2016 – The Sisters were invited by the Basilian Fathers to join them at their Generalate in a celebration of the Feast of Saint Basil the Great. Following a Hierachal Divine Liturgy, which was celebrated by Most Reverend Dionisio Lachovicz, Apostolic Administrator for Ukrainian Catholics in Italy and Spain, and con-celebrated by Most Reverend Irenej Biyk and other priests all were invited to a celebratory dinner.
January 13, 2016 – On the eve of the Feast of St. Basil (according to the Julian calendar) the St. Sofia Religious Association invited representatives of various communities of the UGCC for a communal celebration. Following Great Vespers celebrated in the St. Sofia Basilica, all were invited for supper. Sisters Mariela Nazariya, Atanasia and Anastasia attended the gathering. It was a wonderful opportunity for joyous carolling and celebrating the Christmas season.
On March 29, 2016 - The Sisters living at the Generalate traditionally go on an Emmaus trip during Bright Week. This year the day-long trip was to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. The first stop was at the beautiful Cathedral Shrine of the Blesssed Virgin of the Rosary of Pompei where the Sisters were able to join in the celebration of Mass and then tour the basilica and bell tower.
On March 3, 2016 a special Hierarchal Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Basilica of Maria Maggiore in Rome, Italy for the intention of peace in Ukraine and to commemorate 70 years since the pseudo-Sobor of Lviv, which marked the beginning of persecution and liquidation of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic church by the Communist government.
March 7 - 11, 2016 - The Basilian Governance Commission held their third meeting hosted by the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Province in their monastery in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, USA.
March 20, 2016 – His Holiness Pope Francis blessed palms and olive branches and then celebrated Mass for the Feast of Palm Sunday on the Piazza of St. Peter’s Basilica. Attending the celebrations were Mother Dia Stasiuk, Sister Atanasia Anheluk, Sister Sevastiyana Zinkevych and Sister Iryneya Filipovych.
