The XI General Chapter of the Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great is scheduled to be held in Rome, Italy during July 8 to 20, 2019. On April 10, 2018, the Preparatory Committee for the event gathered for their first meeting at the Generalate of the Basilian Sisters in Rome.
His Beatitude Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, was the main celebrant of a Divine Liturgy of Thanksgiving in the Papal Basilica of St. John Lateran commemorating 420 years since the signing of the the Brest Union. During the homily he underscored the continued relevance of the Union of the Ukrainian Eastern Catholic Church with the Holy See.
On January 2, 2017 the Feast of St. Basil according the the Roman Catholic calendar, the Sisters of the Generalate invited Sister Michelina Torre, OSBM to come for a visit. Sister Michelina is Italian by birth and entered the monastery in 1950. In her 66 years of monastic life, Sister has lived and experienced a long and complicated journey. Sadly, today she is the last living member of the Community of the Contemplative Sisters of Saint Basil the Great in Albano, Italy.
The XXII Provincial Chapter of the Basilian Sisters in the Province of Christ the King in Argentina opened on January 2, 2017. Completing work and making decisions on important issues, the delegates of the Chapter proceeded to the election of the Provincial Administration. Through postulation, the Sisters elected Sister Norma Roznicki, OSBM to a third term as Provincial Superior. After receiving permission from the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, the General Administration approved the election.
During the days of January 27-28, 2017, the delegates of the Holy Family Delegature of the Order of Sisters of St. Basil the Great in Australia met for their Delegature Chapter. By secret ballot the following were elected to leadership positions: Sr. Anisia Szewczuk, OSBM to a second term as Delegature Superior and re-elected Vicar and Councillor Sister Lucia Anheluk, OSBM.
During the days of January 24 – 27, 2017 in their monastery in Gorlice, the Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great from the Holy Cross Province in Poland held their Chapter of Elections. At the opening of the Chapter Heirarchal Divine Liturgy was celebrated and a pastoral homily offered by Metropolitan-Archbishop Eugene Popowicz, Metropolitan-Archbishop of Przemysl-Warszawa. A day of spiritual renewal was given by Reverend Mykola Kozitskyy, OSBM, Provincincial of the Basilian Fathers in Poland.
On October 13, 2016 the Basilian Sisters at the Generalate hosted a group of priests from Argentina who came to Rome to be present at the proclamation of seven new saints, one of whom was their Argentinian priest Jose Gabriel del Rosario Brochera.
From all corners of Italy faithful individuals and priests with their parishioners and communities of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church gathered together for the annual Christmas pilgrimage on December 26, 2016 in St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican.
On the evening of December 29, 2016, the Basilian Sisters welcomed to their Generalate home the Basilian Fathers who came caroling. Robust Christmas carols filled the monastery parlor and chapel. Warm and sincere traditional Christmas wishes were interspersed among the many carols.
On January 1st, the Feast of St. Basil the Great, Mother Dia Stasiuk, General Superior, and the Basilian Sisters at the Generalate had the pleasant opportunity to welcome guests, Mother Teresa Slota, Superior General, with the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate Sisters living at their Generalate in Rome, and the Sister Catechists of St. Anne, including Sister Rita Baldo, Superior of the “Santa Sofia” convent at the parish of St. Sergius and Bacchas in Rome and Sister Delilah Shmehelsky, Superior Administrator in Ukraine, as well as, other Sisters from their community.
