History
In his goodness, God directed the resurrection
of the Contemplative- Adorational Monastery of the Holy
Prophet Elias in the 90's. Established in 1925, by Metropolitan
Andrej Sheptyckyj, in Suchovolia, Ukraine, its members
survived more than a forty-year period (1945-1991) of
repression by the Soviet regime and surfaced to begin
anew their monastic way of life in community. Since
the government dispersed the nuns and liquidated the
monastery in Suchovolia, its members continued their
existence clandestinely. They lived in tiny groups working
to support themselves while remaining faithful to a
life of prayer. They kept the Eucharist in their dwellings
and with dedication assisted priests of the "Church
in the catacombs."
After the dawning of freedom in 1991, the
contemplative nuns regrouped themselves in Brjuchovyci.
In this area they acquired a piece of land and built
a novitiate house in 1997. The nuns established a retreat
house in Tysmencja in 2004.
Ministries
|
Seeking Christ through a life in silence, contemplative
prayer, fraternal charity, spiritual endeavor and daily
recitation of the entire Divine Office is the principal
purpose of the Sisters of Saint Elias the Prophet Monastery.
Their ministry is to praise God continuously, to remember
gratefully His immense goodness and love for each one
of us, to intercede before Him for our needs, the needs
of the Church, God’s People and the entire world.
Their
manner of life is one of penance, sacrifice and
self-denial as a way of reparation for the offenses
committed against the Lord. |
