In April, 2018 Mother Dia Stasiuk, OSBM General Superior, currently in the United States of America for personal reasons, took the opportunity for an unexpected visit with our Contemplative Nuns at the Sacred Heart Monastery in Middletown, New York.

The Nuns were pleased to receive the General Superior of the Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great, whom they graciously welcomed with traditional Basilian hospitality. Their monastery is situated in a quiet, wooded neighborhood. Although elderly and small in number, the Nuns continue their most important ministry of prayer, including the praying of the Divine Office. Throughout the day one can find them in their chapel praying for various intentions, including the needs of the Church, the world and those requested by individuals. Divine Liturgy is an important part of the daily life of the Nuns. Some weekdays it is celebrated in the monastery chapel, on other days the Nuns travel to a neighboring church. On Sundays the Nuns drive to St. Andrew Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hamptonburgh, NY, where they join the parishioners for Divine Liturgy. The Nuns, also, take opportunities to participate in Ukrainian Catholic pilgrimages sponsored by parishes or religious communities. They have spiritual days of renewal, which include conferences given by invited clergy. May God continue to bless them in their prayerful ministry.
